Congratulations to the Bloody Jug Band, the Orlando roots-rock band that emerged atop the competition in the inaugural Orlando Sentinel Battle of the Bands.
In the final round, the Bloody Jug Band -- known for a hybrid jug-band sound and a theatrical stage presence -- prevailed over alternative rock band Hadley's Hope. It was a squeaker, though, with just over 100 votes separating the two bands.
The Battle of the Bands, an NCAA-style bracket competition based on fan voting, launched on July 18 with a field of 32 homegrown acts. The goal was to represent a stylistically diverse assortment of singers and bands. More than 17,000 music fans cast votes in the contest.
Look for an upcoming feature on the Bloody Jug Band in the Soundboard column of the Orlando Sentinel's Calendar section. We'll also be showcasing the band in an upcoming installment of the Soundboard Talks video series.
Thanks to all the fans who voted and to all the bands that participated.
